Here is an overview of what we learned this week, and what the week ahead holds!
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week we finished up Unit 2 for Language Arts. We introduced 5 new spelling words, and 4 new vocabulary words this week. We continued working on summarizing and finding key events to use in our summaries. We also made connections between a text and a movie (we read a part from "The Wizard of Oz", where Dorothy is introduced to the Scarecrow. We then watched a 2 minute clip of the same interaction, and compared the similarities and differences between how it was explained in the text, and how it was shown in the movie clip). We also split into groups and studied a reader's theater play, and the student's acted out their plays today (it was quite entertaining!).

Math
We completed Unit 1 this week, taking the final district Post-Test on Friday. Next week we will begin with Unit 2, which will focus on multiplication and division. Please start studying multiplication flash cards with your student if they are not fluent with their multiplication facts. This will help them a lot!!!

Social Studies
Students were broken into regional "expert groups" to start studying the many Native American Indian tribes that we located in California. They will be creating Google Slide presentations about their regions, and will give a class presentation about it.

Technology
Students also worked on Lexia, TenMarks, and Dreambox at different times throughout the week. Students also started to work on a new site called NewsELA. They can read short articles on current topics. They are able to choose their Lexile level, and the article will reformat to be written in a way that they are able to understand based on their level. They then answer questions during the reading, and take a small quiz at the end. It's a great website for them to practice their reading comprehension skills, as well as writing.
