Here is an overview of what we learned this week, and what the week ahead holds!
English Language Arts (ELA)
We wrapped up Unit 3 this week in ELA. We learned about poetry (rhyme, rhythm, stanzas, and more), as well as continuing to work on locating the main idea of short passages. We also continued to grow our understanding of idioms, adding some new idioms to our vocabulary. Next week we will be taking our district writing assessment (Informative Essay), as well as our first Interim assessment from the district.

Math
We continued working in Unit 2. This week focused on prime and composite numbers, as well as multiplication and division arrays. Next week we will start working on multi-digit multiplication (up to a 4 digit number times a 1 digit number, and multiplying two two-digit numbers). We are going to begin teaching multiple strategies for solving these types of problems (repeated addition, decomposing, and area models). Please continue studying multiplication flash cards with your student if they are not fluent with their multiplication facts. Many students do not have these mastered, and this will help them a lot!!!

Social Studies
Students presented their Native American group region projects. They all did a great job, and created some amazing Google Slide presentations. They have access to their presentations from home, so I would encourage you to ask them to log-in and check them out! Next we will be studying about the first explorers to reach what is now San Diego Bay and California.
