Here is an overview of what we learned this week, and what the week ahead holds!
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week we finished Unit 1. Our focus for the final week was finding key events in a story to then summarize the action. We also worked on inferencing (using clues in the story to make educated guesses as to what is happening, or to learn more about the characters). Friday we took the first Unit Assessment (they will be graded and sent home next week for you to review). In writing, we focused on Opinion writing this week. Students had to write an opinion whether they thought that the citizens in the story we read were being protected by the government.

Math
We continued our work with Unit 1 this week. Our focus this week was learning rounding. We learned how to round numbers up to the millions using place value as well as using number lines. We also discussed how to come up with reasonable estimations for numbers. There was a quiz on Friday (will be graded and sent home next week).

Social Studies
We continued working on our unit about California. We continued our study of California's four natural regions (coastal, mountain, central valley, and desert), and how each of the those regions affect the state. We completed a small project where students were creating a "flip book" with information and illustrations about each of the four regions.

Technology
Students also worked on Lexia, TenMarks, and Dreambox at different times throughout the week. Some also started to type their writing on Google Docs.
