Here is an overview of what we learned this week, and what the week ahead holds!
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week we started Unit 3 in ELA. We focused on locating the main idea and finding supporting details for the main idea. We also continued our work with figurative language, focusing on personification. We started reading "Island of the Blue Dolphins" also. Next week we will continue with Unit 3, working on main idea, poetry, and idioms, as well as continuing to read "Island of the Blue Dolphins".

Math
We started Unit 2, which will be an 8 week unit. This week focused on finding missing numbers in a multiplication equations (for example, 3 x ____ = 12). We then started using a variable to take the place of the missing number (for example, 3 x n = 12). Lastly, we worked on factors of numbers (for example, the factors of the number 32 are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32). Please continue studying multiplication flash cards with your student if they are not fluent with their multiplication facts. Many students do not have these mastered, and this will help them a lot!!!
