Here is an overview of what we learned this week, and what the week ahead holds!
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week we started Unit 2. Our essential question for this unit is "How do we reveal ourselves to others?" We will be looking into how authors develop characters. We focused on findings key events in a story and writing a brief summary using those key events. We also worked on looking into how characters are described in stories, and comparing one character to a different character in a different story. Finally, we started to learn about simile's and metaphors, and how those are used in narrative writing. Our writing focus this week was narrative, and students had to write a conversation between themselves and a character from one of the fables we read this week.

Math
We continued our work with Unit 1 this week. Our focus this week was addition. We reviewed 5 different strategies for solving multi-digit addition problems (branching, decomposing, partial sums, number lines, and standard algorithm). We also learned how to use estimation (rounding) to check if our answers are reasonable. We had a quiz on Friday.
